Avo Cafe Bar Review

A Hidden Gem in Llanelli Town Centre

Right in the heart of Llanelli town centre, is Avo Cafe Bar.

I’ve known about this cafe for years and have only ever heard good things about it, but for some reason, I’d never visited.

Whilst Amelia was on holiday with a friend, I saw an Instagram post by Avo Cafe Bar stating that they were serving Ham Cawl, and I knew I had to visit ASAP. So Florrie and I headed into town for a little lunch date at Avo’s.

The Perfect Casual Vibe

As I mentioned above, Avo’s is located in Llanelli’s town centre, directly opposite the S4C Television Studio.

Any time I’ve walked past this cafe, it’s always busy and that was the case on the day that we visited. Despite it being busy, as soon as we walked through the door we were welcomed by the server behind the counter who helped us to find a table.

I instantly noticed that the atmosphere was incredibly friendly and laid back, which is exactly how I like it. I’m personally not into places that try too hard to be professional, I tend to be quite uncomfortable so the casual vibe here was extremely welcome.

There was a choice of sofas or normal tables and chairs to sit at. One thing that I loved was that there were nice blankets at the tables too. The cafe was incredibly clean with a cosy vibe to the decor.

Catering To All

When we were seated, we were provided with the menus and told where we could find the specials board.

There was a decent variety of food options available to order at pretty standard prices.

Florrie was happy because her menu had lots of activities and colouring in to keep her occupied; I love it when places offer this because Florrie is not good at waiting at all.

I chose the Ham Cawl from the specials board with an Americano coffee and Florrie went for her standard, cheese sandwich with a banana milkshake. One thing I liked was that it was very clear what meals were gluten-free and what dietary requirements were catered for.

It was nice. The food was delicious and the colouring menu was really good.

Avo Cafe’s Ham Cawl

The drinks arrived quickly. My coffee arrived with a mini jammie dodger, which Florrie immediately pinched off me! Her milkshake went down a treat too.

Food wasn’t too long after and what a treat it was.

My ham cawl was delicious. I have only ever had lamb or beef cawl in the past, so I was excited to try it with ham. It was really light, very tasty and didn’t leave me feeling bloated which is always a win. It was served with crusty baguette pieces, cheese and butter.

Florrie’s cheese sandwich pieces were huge and served with cucumber and crisps. She really enjoyed it but couldn’t finish it. The staff were happy to provide us with a box at no extra cost so we were able to take her food home with us. One thing to note is that even though they accept card payments, they prefer cash payments.

Final Thoughts

We had a really pleasant first visit to Avo Cafe Bar and will definitely be returning in the near future ( I’ve got my eye on their crumble!).

If you are local to Llanelli or just visiting the area, we definitely recommend giving Avo Cafe Bar a try. With such a warm, welcoming atmosphere and delicious food, you won’t regret it.

It’s very easy to see why this cafe is so popular and rated #7 out of 82 Llanelli restaurants on TripAdvisor. I would suggest reserving a table to ensure you get a seat.

If you are unable to get a seat, they also do takeout so you are guaranteed to be able to get a taste.
